Family Clean or Simply Maid? A matched home assistant or a booked clean
Quick answer: Family Clean matches you with an independent Home Assistant for weekly or fortnightly visits: $60 an hour per person, a two-hour minimum, a one-off $370 matching fee, your own products, and you pay the worker directly. Simply Maid books independent cleaners at a fixed price by home size, one-off or regular, and the cleaner brings the products and equipment.

How Family Clean's matching works
Family Clean hand-picks a worker for your home, usually within a week, and that person then visits on an ongoing basis.
- Booking. You book online and pay the matching fee: $370 for a Home Assistant or $49 for Barefoot Basics (floors and bathrooms only). It's refunded if no match is found within the week, and not refundable once you're matched.
- The match. Family Clean aims to introduce a worker within a week, or up to two in busy times. You get their bio and contact details, they arrange the day and time with you, and the first visit includes a walk-through.
- Replacements. The matching fee covers replacement support for 6 months on regular services. Under its Match Guarantee, if the match isn't right it finds a better fit and the next service is free.
- Who it picks. It says it checks police checks, insurance and references, interviews each worker, and accepts about 40 of roughly 4,000 applicants a month.
With Simply Maid there's no matching fee: the job is offered to available cleaners near you, and on a regular plan Simply Maid aims to keep the same cleaner.
What you pay, and to whom
Family Clean's hourly rate goes to the worker on the day; the matching fee goes to Family Clean once.
- Home Assistant: $60 an hour per person, with a 2-hour minimum ($120). It covers cleaning plus help such as laundry, tidying and meal prep, with your priorities set each visit.
- Barefoot Basics: $50 an hour per person, with a 2-hour minimum ($100), for floors and bathrooms only.
- Paying: you pay the worker directly on the day, by cash or bank transfer. Family Clean's terms say prices exclude GST unless the worker must charge it.
- Products: you supply the vacuum, mop, bucket and products.
- Cancelling: Family Clean charges no cancellation fee of its own and asks for 48 hours' notice, but workers may set their own fee.
- Insurance: workers hold their own public liability insurance, which doesn't cover the worker themselves. Family Clean suggests you consider household worker insurance.
With Simply Maid, a standard clean of a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is $317 one-off, live from our booking calculator, including GST and the Care & Cover fee; regular plans cost 20% less weekly and 15% fortnightly. Care & Cover includes public liability insurance on every booking. An hourly rate and a fixed price aren't directly comparable, so compare a year of visits for the same home.
Where to read Family Clean's reviews
This guide isn't a review of Family Clean's service. Read recent reviews from its customers on sites it doesn't control, and look at how it answers critical ones.
- **Family Clean on ProductReview.com.au**
- Google Business Profiles. Search for Family Clean and your city on Google Maps, then sort the reviews by newest.
- Its own reviews page (familyclean.com.au/reviews/) shows reviews the business has chosen to publish.
- Employee review sites such as Indeed, SEEK and Glassdoor rate working for Family Clean, not booking it.
When you read them, sort by newest, look for homes and services like yours, and read the replies to critical reviews. Different sites and customers produce different scores, so we don't compare star ratings between businesses. We haven't used Family Clean's service for this guide.
When Family Clean may suit you better
Family Clean can be the better fit for some households.
- You want the same person every week or fortnight, chosen for you by hand.
- You want help beyond cleaning, such as laundry, tidying or meal prep.
- You only need floors and bathrooms done (Barefoot Basics).
- You're happy to supply products and pay the worker directly.
Simply Maid may suit you better if you want a one-off, deep or end of lease clean (Family Clean offers regular visits only, and no bond cleans), no upfront matching fee, the cleaner to bring everything, or a clean on the Gold Coast, which Family Clean doesn't list.
Method
How we compare
We compare what each business publishes about how its service works, not how well any one clean was done.
- What we read. Each provider's own service, pricing, help and terms pages, on the date shown beside each fact. We didn't post jobs, ask for quotes, book cleans or contact sales teams.
- "Not stated in the sources we reviewed". We couldn't find it on the pages we read. It doesn't mean the business doesn't do it, so ask them.
- Platform terms and individual cleaners. On a marketplace or through an agency, much is set by the person you book. We describe the platform's or agency's published terms, not any one cleaner's.
- Prices. We compare like for like where we can: the same service, home size and frequency, with GST, minimum hours and fees noted. Simply Maid's prices are live from our booking calculator. Other figures are labelled as published rates, "from" prices or marketplace task prices, and we never work out an hourly rate from a fixed price.
- No scores or winners. We don't rate providers or pick a winner. Star ratings on different sites come from different customers, so we don't compare them.
- Which providers. The services that appear most often in Google results for house cleaning across the seven cities we serve, plus agencies that serve most of those cities.
- Corrections. If something here is wrong or out of date, email hello@simplymaid.com.au and we'll check it and correct the page. We re-read every source at least every three months.
