Absolute Domestics or Simply Maid? An agency or a fixed price

Quick answer: Absolute Domestics is a cleaning agency: it screens and matches independent cleaners, and you pay the cleaner directly after each clean. Its pages publish regular cleans from $82 or $99 for the first two hours, using your products. Simply Maid books independent cleaners at a fixed price by home size, and the cleaner brings the products and equipment.

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth and the Gold Coast.[1]Coverage follows each cleaner's travel area; booking shows the dates available.

All seven of our cities, plus other areas; availability is checked by postcode.[2]

Home cleaning types

Standard clean (one-off or regular), deep clean, and end of lease or move-in clean.[3]No carpet steam cleaning, upholstery, outside windows or office cleaning.

Regular weekly or fortnightly, once-off (including end of lease), and NDIS, aged care and DVA-funded cleaning. Residential only.[2]

How you get a price

A fixed price online before you book. No quote visit or call needed.[4]

Book online with prices shown, or by phone; the agency matches a nearby cleaner and you agree the arrival time with them.[2]

Who chooses the cleaner

The job is offered to available cleaners near you; you can't choose a named cleaner when you book.[1]Cleaners are independent contractors who set their own availability and accept or decline work.

The agency matches a cleaner; you can ask for a replacement.[2]

How the price is set

Fixed price by service, bedrooms, bathrooms and how often. A standard clean starts from $221.[4]Includes GST and the Care & Cover fee. The same in every city. Live from the booking calculator.

Regular cleans: its FAQ says $99 for the first 2 hours, then $38 an hour per cleaner; other pages show from $82 for 2 hours, varying by suburb.[2]GST not stated. Once-off prices also differ between its pages. Its cleaner terms define a placement fee owed by the client; whether published prices include it isn't stated.

Minimum booking

Priced per clean, not by the hour, so there's no minimum number of hours.[4]

2 hours for regular cleans; 3 hours for once-off cleans.[5]

Equipment and products

The cleaner brings products and equipment, including a vacuum and mop.[6]

Regular cleans use your products and equipment; once-off and end of lease cleaners bring their own.[2]The cleaner can bring equipment to a regular clean for a small extra charge.

Cleaner checks

Cleaners are identity-verified and pass Simply Maid's skills assessment.[1]

Five steps: phone and face-to-face interviews, identity check, national police check and work history check.[2]

Insurance

Care & Cover on every booking includes up to $10 million public liability insurance through Chubb. Cleaners also hold at least $5 million of their own cover.[7]Conditions and exclusions apply; report damage within 48 hours.

Registered cleaners are covered by $20 million public liability and personal accident insurance.[2]Insurer and excess not published.

If something is missed

Report a missed task within 48 hours and eligible concerns get a free re-clean of those areas within seven business days. If you're still unhappy, a review and a fair credit or refund.[8]Doesn't apply if access, water or power was missing, or the scope changed after booking.

If a clean isn't up to standard, the agency works with you and the cleaner to fix it or arranges a different cleaner.[2]No time window published; bond return isn't guaranteed.

Cancelling or rescheduling

Free with at least 24 hours' notice. Inside 24 hours, a $70 fee may apply.[1]If the cleaner can't get in after 20 minutes, the booking is cancelled and a $70 lockout fee applies.

No cancellation fee and no lock-in contract; it asks for at least 72 hours' notice.[2]

Phone Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm AEST, a contact form and a client login.[2]

Same cleaner each time

On a regular plan Simply Maid aims to keep the same cleaner, and you can ask for a change.[10]A particular cleaner can't be guaranteed every visit.

One assigned cleaner for regular cleans, with a fill-in when available if they're away.[2]

When you pay

A card hold about 48 hours before the clean; the charge is taken after it.[11]Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

You pay the cleaner directly at the end of each clean, by card, bank transfer or cash.[2]

How booking through an agency works

Absolute Domestics finds and screens the cleaner; the cleaner works for themselves, and you deal with them for the time and the payment.

  • Booking. You book online, where prices are shown, or by phone. The agency matches a cleaner near you, you agree the arrival time with the cleaner, and it recommends meeting them before the first clean. It says the first clean works as a trial, with no contract.
  • Paying. You pay the cleaner directly at the end of each clean, by card, bank transfer or cash, not Absolute Domestics.
  • Fees. Its cleaner terms define a placement fee that the client owes the agency, which cleaners may be asked to collect. Its pages don't say how much it is or whether the published prices include it, so ask before you book.
  • Products. Regular cleans use your products and equipment, and the cleaner can bring equipment for a small extra charge. For once-off and end of lease cleans the cleaner brings them.
  • Your cleaner. A regular service gets one assigned cleaner, with a fill-in when one is available. Its FAQ says cleaners can't work privately for clients the agency introduced.

With Simply Maid you pay Simply Maid, the cleaner brings the products and equipment, and the price you see is the price you pay, including GST and the Care & Cover fee.

Absolute Domestics' prices

Absolute Domestics publishes different prices for the same clean on different pages, so check the price in its booking app for your address.

  • Regular cleans: from $82 for 2 hours on its home and regular-clean pages, marked as varying by suburb; from $99 for a 2-hour clean in the regular-clean page's FAQ; and $99 for the first 2 hours, then $38 an hour per cleaner, on its FAQ page.
  • Once-off cleans: $210 for 3 hours on its home page; $255 for a once-off clean (3-hour minimum, the cleaner's products) or $195 for a catch-up clean (3-hour minimum, your products) on its one-off page; and a guide of $325 for 4 hours, then $65 an hour, in its FAQ.
  • End of lease: from $260 for the first 3 hours, then $65 an hour.
  • GST isn't mentioned on any of the pages we read.

With Simply Maid, a standard clean of a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home is $253 one-off, and $317 for three bedrooms and two bathrooms, live from our booking calculator, including GST and the Care & Cover fee. An hourly rate and a fixed price for a home aren't directly comparable: compare a quote for the same home, scope and frequency. What house cleaning costs shows how.

If a clean isn't right, or plans change

Absolute Domestics charges no cancellation fee but asks for 72 hours' notice; Simply Maid is free to cancel until 24 hours before.

  • Absolute Domestics. If a clean isn't up to standard, it says it will work with you and the cleaner to fix it, or arrange a different cleaner. No time window for raising a problem is published, and it doesn't promise a bond return on end of lease cleans. There's no lock-in contract and no cancellation fee; it asks for at least 72 hours' notice.
  • Simply Maid. Report a missed task within 48 hours, with photos if asked, and eligible concerns within the booked checklist get a free re-clean of those areas within seven business days. If you're still unhappy, Simply Maid reviews it and offers a fair credit or refund. Cancelling is free with at least 24 hours' notice; inside 24 hours a $70 fee may apply.

Where to read Absolute Domestics' reviews

This guide isn't a review of Absolute Domestics' service. Read recent reviews from its customers on sites it doesn't control, and look at how it answers critical ones.

When you read them, sort by newest, look for homes and services like yours, and read the replies to critical reviews. Different sites and customers produce different scores, so we don't compare star ratings between businesses. We haven't used Absolute Domestics' service for this guide.

When Absolute Domestics may suit you better

Absolute Domestics can be the better fit for some households.

  • You want NDIS, aged care or DVA-funded cleaning, which it lists.
  • You live outside the seven cities we serve: it lists Hobart, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast, regional areas and New Zealand.
  • You'd rather pay the cleaner directly, and are happy to supply products for regular cleans.
  • You want no cancellation fee at all, and can give 72 hours' notice.

Simply Maid may suit you better if you'd like one fixed price for your home with GST included, the cleaner to bring everything, payment handled for you, and a guarantee with a stated reporting window.

Method

How we compare

We compare what each business publishes about how its service works, not how well any one clean was done.

  • What we read. Each provider's own service, pricing, help and terms pages, on the date shown beside each fact. We didn't post jobs, ask for quotes, book cleans or contact sales teams.
  • "Not stated in the sources we reviewed". We couldn't find it on the pages we read. It doesn't mean the business doesn't do it, so ask them.
  • Platform terms and individual cleaners. On a marketplace or through an agency, much is set by the person you book. We describe the platform's or agency's published terms, not any one cleaner's.
  • Prices. We compare like for like where we can: the same service, home size and frequency, with GST, minimum hours and fees noted. Simply Maid's prices are live from our booking calculator. Other figures are labelled as published rates, "from" prices or marketplace task prices, and we never work out an hourly rate from a fixed price.
  • No scores or winners. We don't rate providers or pick a winner. Star ratings on different sites come from different customers, so we don't compare them.
  • Which providers. The services that appear most often in Google results for house cleaning across the seven cities we serve, plus agencies that serve most of those cities.
  • Corrections. If something here is wrong or out of date, email hello@simplymaid.com.au and we'll check it and correct the page. We re-read every source at least every three months.
