Make apartment access part of the booking
A useful access note is specific: the floor, whether there is a suitable lift, the entry process and the route from parking to the carpet. Tell us about building time restrictions and any arrangement that needs another person present.
Do not assume a removalist lift reservation also covers the cleaner's arrival. Coordinate the appointment with building management where needed, and keep water and power available. If your access arrangements change, update the booking rather than leaving the cleaner to discover the change on arrival.
These are planning questions for a building with shared access, not claims that every Sydney home has the same restrictions.
Decide which floor areas will be reachable
Walk through each room and identify what will stay in place. Remove loose belongings and small items from the selected carpet areas; moving heavy furniture is outside the service.
In a furnished home, be clear whether your priority is the accessible traffic areas or a room that will be emptied before the visit. The cleaner cannot extract carpet hidden beneath furniture that remains in place. If a sofa or mattress also needs cleaning, select the suitable furnishing separately rather than including it in a carpet-room count.
For a Sydney rental handover, check the actual requirement
Use the entry condition record, agreement and any written pet approval to work out what has been requested. The NSW Government's pet-rental guidance explains reasonable carpet-cleaning conditions; it does not make every tenancy the same.
Book the selected carpet work explicitly, keep the completion records and leave time to inspect the agreed work before returning keys. A cleaning receipt does not guarantee a bond refund.
Leave room in the plan for aftercare

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Sydney?
$60 for each bedroom or study up to 12 m², including GST. A living or large room counts as two of those, a hallway as half and a flight of stairs as one and a half. A $150 minimum applies once to the whole carpet booking, before booking fees. The same rates apply everywhere in Sydney: there is no suburb loading.
A two-bedroom apartment with a carpeted living room is four room units, whether it is in Parramatta, Bondi or Hornsby. Building parking, lifts and loading docks change the planning, not the room rate, so put them in your booking note. How long will the cleaner be there?
Allow about 40 minutes of cleaner time for each bedroom-sized room, with a minimum visit of 100 minutes. A larger room, hallway or flight of stairs takes time in proportion to its share of the price.
Cleaner time is how long the work takes, not when you can use the room again. Moving small items, vacuuming before a carpet-only visit and drying all sit outside it. If you need to move in, lay rugs or return furniture on the same day, plan around drying, not the finish time.

Drying carpet in Sydney's weather
Sydney's humid summer days slow drying, especially in apartments with little cross-breeze. On a muggy day, run the air conditioner or a dehumidifier with doors closed rather than relying on open windows. Dry, breezy autumn and winter days are usually easier: open windows on opposite sides of the room if security allows.
