Bring the care instructions into the conversation

If you know the carpet brand, keep the care guide or purchase information handy. A label such as wool does not, by itself, mean that every product needs the same cleaning method. The Godfrey Hirst wool carpet guide is one manufacturer-specific example; it must not be applied to an unidentified rug or every wool product.

Tell us about previous treatments and any areas that have changed colour or texture. The cleaner assesses suitability before wet cleaning. Damage repair and guaranteed removal of every stain are outside routine extraction.

Plan an occupied home room by room

Decide which selected areas can be cleared and which furniture will stay. In a room that remains furnished, identify the accessible carpet instead of assuming the whole floor can be reached. Moving heavy furniture is outside the service.

For a standalone carpet visit, vacuum beforehand. If you have also booked a deep or end-of-lease house clean, vacuuming is part of that house-cleaning scope. Mention the combined booking when discussing the sequence so preparation is clear.

Build a drying plan around your home

Tell the cleaner when the room next needs to be used and discuss ventilation and access. If leaving a window open is not practical because of security, pets or building restrictions, say so before relying on it in your plan.

There is no single drying time that can be promised from the city name. Carpet, conditions and the work performed matter. Keep the cleaner's advice separate from the booked working-time allowance, and wait for the carpet to dry before replacing items as advised.

Check Victorian handover instructions before booking extras

For a rental, read the Consumer Affairs Victoria Renters Guide alongside the entry condition record and your agreement. A property manager's request, a valid professional-cleaning condition and the selected cleaning service are related questions, but they are not interchangeable.

Agree the rooms, retain booking and completion records, and leave time to check the work while access is still available. Carpet steam cleaning is separately selected from the house clean.

Use Melbourne carpet cleaning prices for room-size and minimum comparisons, and the preparation checklist to write the access note for your visit.

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Melbourne?

$60 for each bedroom or study up to 12 m², including GST. A living or large room counts as two of those, a hallway as half and a flight of stairs as one and a half. A $150 minimum applies once to the whole carpet booking, before booking fees. The same rates apply everywhere in Melbourne: there is no suburb loading.

A three-bedroom house with a carpeted lounge and hallway is five and a half room units, whether it is in Brunswick, Box Hill or Werribee. Some Melbourne quotes are priced by size band or as "basic" and "deep" levels; ours is one method at one rate, so compare the rooms and the method rather than the label. For worked checkout totals, see Melbourne carpet cleaning prices.

How our price compares with other Melbourne carpet cleaners

We checked 7 Melbourne carpet cleaners, price guides and marketplace listings on 11 October 2026. All 5 providers that publish a single-room rate advertise less than our $60 bedroom unit, from $33 to $55. Most also set a minimum or sell rooms in packages, so the room rate is rarely the price of a small job. Ours is a $150 minimum, and one bedroom totals $160 with GST and the booking fee. What's The Damage puts a typical Melbourne steam-cleaned room at $47.

Room sizes, methods, inclusions and booking terms for each provider are in the Melbourne carpet price guide. Advertised prices, not quotes for the same home: room sizes, methods, minimums and GST differ, so we do not average them. A condition a page does not state is unknown, not free. Where we cost more per room, you get a fixed online price with GST included, and carpets, upholstery and a deep or end-of-lease clean in one booking. Check any provider's current written quote before relying on it.

How long will the cleaner be there?

Allow about 40 minutes of cleaner time for each bedroom-sized room, with a minimum visit of 100 minutes. A larger room, hallway or flight of stairs takes time in proportion to its share of the price.

Cleaner time is how long the work takes, not when you can use the room again. Moving small items, vacuuming before a carpet-only visit and drying all sit outside it. If you need to move in, lay rugs or return furniture on the same day, plan around drying, not the finish time.

Our carpet cleaning record in Melbourne

Our previous booking platform recorded carpet steam cleaning on 97 completed Melbourne visits between 2016 and 2025. Carpet was a bigger part of moving in Melbourne than in Sydney: more than a third of the Melbourne move-in and move-out cleans in those records included it, about twice the Sydney share.

That is a pattern in our own bookings, not a rule about Victorian rentals. It also says nothing about today's prices or current equipped-cleaner coverage; your address and date decide availability.

Drying carpet in Melbourne's weather

Melbourne's cool, damp winters are the slowest time for carpet to dry. Book a morning visit so the room has the whole day, run the heating with a window slightly open to let moist air out, and keep doors to the cleaned rooms open. In a sudden cold change, a dehumidifier helps more than an open window.

On warm, dry summer days, cross-ventilation usually does the job. Either way, wait until the pile feels dry before moving furniture back. The drying and aftercare guide covers what to ask before the cleaner leaves.

Questions about carpet cleaning in Melbourne

Can I book carpet steam cleaning on its own in Melbourne?

Yes. Book carpets only, or add them to a deep or end-of-lease clean. Enter your address in booking: times are only offered where a cleaner who owns hot-water extraction equipment can attend.

Do carpet cleaning prices change between Melbourne suburbs?

No. A bedroom costs $60 including GST across Melbourne, and the $150 minimum applies once to the whole carpet booking.

Is wool carpet suitable for hot-water extraction?

Many wool carpets can be wet cleaned, but the manufacturer's care instructions decide. Share them if you have them; the cleaner checks the label and tests a hidden area before starting.

Do I need professional carpet cleaning when I leave a Victorian rental?

It depends on your lease and the condition report, not on a general rule. Check Consumer Affairs Victoria's guidance and any written pet condition before booking extra areas.

Do you use deodoriser or carpet protector?

Not at this stage. The service is hot-water extraction with suitable pre-treatment. Deodoriser, sanitiser and stain-protection packages are not offered.

Can I book carpet steam cleaning in Melbourne this week?

Melbourne has 3 cleaners with their own carpet extraction machine. Between Tue 13 Oct and Mon 26 Oct they have room for a carpet visit on 14 of 14 days; the next is Tue 13 Oct. In the past, half our Melbourne carpet customers booked at least 7 days ahead and 18% booked within two days of the visit.

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Melbourne?

Simply Maid charges $60 for each bedroom or study up to 12 m², GST included; a living room counts as two of those, a hallway as half and a flight of stairs as one and a half. A $150 minimum applies once, so one bedroom totals $160 with the booking fee. Other Melbourne providers we checked advertise $33–$55 a room, usually with their own minimum. Use the calculator on this page for your rooms.

Is Simply Maid cheaper than other Melbourne carpet cleaners?

Often not per room.

Which Melbourne suburbs do you cover for carpet cleaning?

We take carpet bookings across Inner City, Inner North, Inner East, Inner South and 6 other Melbourne areas; enter your address to check it. Past carpet visits were most often in Melbourne CBD, Pascoe Vale, Carlton, South Melbourne, Abbotsford, Fitzroy, out of 53 Melbourne suburbs.

How long until I can walk on the carpet and put furniture back?

It depends on the fibre, how wet the carpet needed to be, airflow and the weather, so your cleaner tells you on the day rather than us promising a fixed number of hours. Open windows or run fans where you can, keep pets and shoes off, and wait until the carpet is dry to the touch before furniture goes back. The cleaner time in the calculator is the visit itself; drying continues after it.

What the carpet visit covers

Your cleaner checks the selected carpet's suitability, carries out professional hot-water extraction on the agreed accessible areas and provides drying and aftercare advice. Carpet work can be booked alone or selected with a deep or end-of-lease clean.

Heavy furniture moving, repairs, mould remediation, leather and dry-clean-only fabrics are outside the service. Stain and odour removal cannot be guaranteed. Suitable furnishings are separately selected. Check the complete price and address availability before confirming.
