How to prepare for a carpet steam-cleaning visit

Open the booking and compare the selected areas with the rooms you want cleaned. Check the lounge, hallway and stairs as well as the bedrooms.

An open-plan area or oversized room may need clarification. Send its dimensions before the visit instead of choosing the nearest-looking option. The pricing guide explains how the area selections work.

This avoids clearing a space that was never included or leaving a booked room inaccessible. If the required scope has changed, contact the team to agree the change.

Move loose belongings and small items out of the selected areas. Tell us which furniture will remain so the accessible carpet can be agreed.

Do not assume the cleaner will move a bed, loaded cabinet or other heavy furniture. If moving something requires help you do not have, leave it and describe it. A realistic accessible area is better than a preparation plan you cannot complete.

Keep cleared items somewhere that will not obstruct entry or the route between the rooms. Avoid moving everything onto another carpeted area that is also booked.

For a standalone Simply Maid carpet booking, vacuum the selected areas before the cleaner arrives. Vacuuming is included in the relevant deep or end-of-lease house-cleaning service when you have booked that work.

Follow your carpet's own care instructions for the vacuum you use. Preparation should not introduce a method that the manufacturer excludes.

If you cannot vacuum beforehand, contact the team to clarify the arrangement. Do not assume it will be added automatically on the day.

A front-door code does not explain the journey from parking to the rooms. Include legal parking or loading arrangements, any height limit, the building entrance, lift availability and stairs.

Check building requirements with management. If a lift or access window needs booking, arrange it before confirming that the appointment fits. Do not reserve a tight building slot without discussing how it relates to the cleaning visit.

Water and electricity need to remain available. This matters particularly during a move, when utilities and key access may change on different dates.

You do not need to guess an answer. “Material unknown” is more useful than an incorrect fibre description.

Decide how you will use the home while the carpet dries. Tell the cleaner about a move-in, inspection or other fixed deadline before the visit.

Ask for aftercare advice for the actual carpet and conditions. The drying guide explains the questions to settle before putting the room back together.

Contact us if there is flood damage, mould, an unidentified delicate material, access that may prevent equipment reaching the rooms, or an expectation of guaranteed stain removal. These need clarification; they are not details to solve by simply selecting another bedroom.
