Steam versus dry carpet cleaning

Reviewer: Huy Hoang

Quick answer: Simply Maid offers hot-water extraction, commonly called steam cleaning. Dry and low-moisture processes are different methods. Ask what process is proposed and check it against your carpet's care instructions before comparing price, drying or results.

You may see steam cleaning and dry cleaning offered for the same kind of room. The right choice starts with the carpet and the work it needs, not with which label sounds stronger.

Ask for the process behind the name

A quote should tell you what the cleaner intends to do. “Professional carpet cleaning” alone leaves an important question unanswered.

The Carpet Institute's residential fact sheet distinguishes interim appearance maintenance from corrective cleaning and directs the method choice to the manufacturer's documentation. An appropriate maintenance process is not automatically the same scope as a deeper clean.

Ask the provider to explain the proposed process in ordinary language. What work is included? Why is it suitable for this carpet? What preparation and aftercare does it require?

Do not decide from fibre name alone

Wool is a useful example. It does not automatically mean “dry clean only”. Godfrey Hirst's Australian wool carpet guide recommends professional hot-water extraction for the covered products.

That does not establish suitability for an unidentified wool rug, a different construction or a carpet with damage. Keep the product's own instructions attached to the quote enquiry where possible. A rug and fixed carpet may need different services even when both contain wool.

A method comparison is useful only when the scope is clear. Do not turn “uses less moisture” into a universal promise that a room is immediately ready for furniture.

Where Simply Maid fits

Our carpet steam-cleaning service uses hot-water extraction on suitable selected areas. The cleaner assesses suitability before wet cleaning and gives aftercare advice.

We do not offer a menu of dry-cleaning methods through this booking. If your carpet requires another process, choose a provider able to carry it out. Do not select steam cleaning solely because it is the available option.

Suitable furnishings can be selected separately. Leather, dry-clean-only fabrics, delicate natural-fibre rugs, repairs and mould remediation are outside the documented scope.

When a method comparison will not solve the problem

If a stain has changed the carpet's colour or there is damage beneath the surface, changing the method name does not guarantee a remedy. Tell the provider what happened and what has already been applied.

If your concern is a fresh spill, use the existing carpet stain guide for the DIY topic. If it is a persistent pet smell, use the pet-urine guide and disclose it before a service booking.

Make the next choice

Once suitability is established, compare the complete prices. Then arrange preparation and aftercare around the appointment.
