How to compare carpet cleaning quotes

List the carpeted spaces you actually want cleaned. Include the lounge, passage and stairs if they are part of the job; the home's bedroom count is not a complete scope.

Measure areas that might be oversized. Describe open-plan spaces and landings rather than deciding for the cleaner how many rooms they represent. Note what furniture will stay in place.

Then send that same description with every enquiry. If one provider prices only the bedrooms and another includes the living room, ask for aligned quotes before comparing money.

“Not stated” is a useful answer. It tells you what to ask next. It does not mean the item is free or excluded.

An advertised per-room price can sit below the minimum for a visit. Multiplying one room by its listed rate may therefore give the wrong total.

The arithmetic changes if you are buying a house-cleaning bundle. Ask whether a discounted carpet rate requires the larger booking. Do not compare that conditional rate with a standalone carpet service.

The phrase “carpet cleaning” does not identify one exact process. Ask the provider to name the method and explain its suitability for your carpet. Read the steam-versus-dry guide if those terms are unfamiliar.

The same applies to stain work. “Tell us about stains” is not a promise that every stain will disappear. Ask what is being assessed, what treatment is included, and what would require separate agreement.

Suppose Quote A includes three bedrooms and Quote B includes three bedrooms, a lounge and a hallway. Even if Quote A is cheaper, it does not yet answer which provider offers better value for your complete job.

Ask A to add the missing areas, or ask B to quote bedrooms alone if that is all you need. Only then compare the final amounts and conditions.

An unidentified delicate carpet, a damaged backing or a persistent contamination problem may need inspection before a reliable scope exists. Do not force an uncertain job into a standard-room package to obtain a neat comparison.

Keep the accepted scope and any later changes together. If something on the day differs from the description, ask the provider to clarify the work and price before the extra work begins.
