Planning your clean

How long does it take to clean a house professionally?

Quick answer: Simply Maid currently allows 2h of cleaner time for a standard clean of a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home, or 3h for three bedrooms and two bathrooms. These are one-off booking estimates for a home kept on top of, without extras. A team can share the work and spend less time in your home.

Your home

Takes about a minute. Nothing is booked or paid at this step.

Start with your rooms and the work you want done. Then check whether the quoted hours mean one cleaner’s time or the time the whole team will be in your home.

Work out the time for your home

Count bathrooms as well as bedrooms, choose the clean that fits the home’s condition, and include any extras before comparing times.

Still choosing who to hire? Our hiring-a-cleaner guide covers the questions to ask before booking. This guide helps you plan the visit itself. Different providers include different tasks, so a shorter estimate on its own does not tell you which service is better.

One cleaner would spend approximately this time on site. With a team, the work is shared. Build-up, optional extras and a different cleaning frequency can change the allowance. One cleaner or a team: how long will they be in your home?

Cleaner-hours add up everyone’s working time. Time on site is how long the visit lasts. Ask which one your estimate describes.

For example, four cleaner-hours could mean one cleaner working for four hours, or two cleaners working for about two hours each. The total labour is the same. Sharing tasks does not always halve the visit exactly: access, room layout and work that cannot happen together can affect the finish.

At Simply Maid, sending a team does not change the fixed price for the same booked scope. Confirm how many cleaners are expected before arranging your day around the estimate.

What can a cleaner do in two hours?

Two hours can be a useful allowance for maintaining a small home or working through a short list of priorities. It is not a promise to finish every room in any house.

For context, our current one-off standard allowance for one bedroom and one bathroom is 2h, without build-up or extras. In a larger home, agree a priority order: perhaps the main bathroom first, then kitchen surfaces, then the most-used floors if time remains. A shower with stubborn build-up can change what fits.

If you are buying an hourly service, tell the provider what matters most and ask what is realistic within the limit. Simply Maid’s standard clean is priced for its agreed scope; the estimates here do not turn it into a two-hour hourly package. Check the standard-clean checklist before choosing.

What can a cleaner do in three hours?

Three hours gives one cleaner more room to cover everyday tasks across a maintained home. The number of bathrooms and the condition of the home still matter.

Our live one-off estimates are 2h 40m for three bedrooms and one bathroom, and 3h for three bedrooms and two bathrooms. They cover the standard service with no extras. Use those as examples for comparing your home, rather than a universal three-hour checklist.

For a time-limited visit, put essential tasks ahead of occasional detail work. Ask the cleaner to flag early if your list will not fit. Adding fridge or cupboard interiors, or catching up after a long gap, needs its own allowance.

What makes a house clean take longer?

The work required matters as much as bedroom count. Two homes of the same size can need different allowances.

Bathrooms and kitchens: another shower, grease on a stovetop or accumulated soap scum adds work. Tell the provider about extra bathrooms and living spaces rather than relying on bedroom count alone.

Condition and access: build-up, pet hair and clutter can slow a visit. Clear accessible surfaces and floors where you can, and explain parking, lifts or entry arrangements in advance. There is no need to clean the house before your cleaner arrives.

For a deep clean: Cleaning inside the oven is included. Cleaning inside the fridge and inside kitchen cabinets and drawers is optional and costs extra. Select them if you want them cleaned, and allow for their additional work. A note asking for an extra does not add it to the booked scope.

Frequency: a home maintained between regular visits may need less catch-up work. The table above is for one-off bookings; use your own booking’s allowance for recurring visits. Our guide to how often to book helps you choose a routine.

Does the first clean take longer?

It can, especially when there is build-up or you have booked extra tasks. A first visit is not automatically a deep clean.

Choose the service for the home as it is now, and describe what needs attention before booking. The cleaner also needs to understand access, delicate surfaces and your priorities. A later visit may be quicker because there is less to catch up on. That does not mean the first clean was too slow.

Our first-clean guide explains what to prepare and how to agree priorities. Keep your first-visit estimate separate from the allowance for later recurring visits.

How long does a deep or end-of-lease clean take?

These services cover more detailed work than everyday upkeep. Compare the included tasks before comparing the hours.

Ask for an estimate based on the service checklist, bathrooms, build-up and any extras you choose. A deep clean is not simply a standard clean multiplied by a fixed number. An end-of-lease clean also depends on the handover requirements and whether the property is empty.

See deep-cleaning inclusions for a furnished-home reset, or end-of-lease cleaning for an empty home being handed back. If you are moving, the moving guide helps you put the clean in the right place in your schedule.

Plan for the arrival window as well as the clean

An arrival window tells you when the cleaner is expected to arrive. It does not tell you when the clean will be finished.

A morning arrival selection is a window, not a precise start time. Once a start is assigned, use that and the expected time on site to plan access. Tell the team before the visit if you need to leave at a fixed time or have a handover deadline. Avoid scheduling something that depends on the clean finishing at the exact estimated minute.

If you will be out, arrange access in advance and follow the instructions for your booking. Keep pets and working-from-home arrangements in the notes so everyone knows how the space will be used.

Does a longer clean mean a better clean?

Time alone is not a quality check. Compare the finished work with the checklist you agreed to.

A team may finish sooner than one person, and someone familiar with your home may work through it more efficiently. Equally, build-up can make a careful clean take longer. Neither result should be judged without knowing the scope.

Before the cleaner leaves, check the areas that mattered most. If an agreed task was missed, describe the room and the task clearly. If it was an optional extra you did not book, arrange it separately rather than assuming it was included.

Questions about cleaning time

How long does it take to clean a three-bedroom house?

Simply Maid currently plans 2h 40m for a standard clean of three bedrooms and one bathroom, or 3h with two bathrooms. These are total cleaner-hours for a one-off visit to a home kept on top of, with no extras. A team shares that work.

Is two hours enough for a cleaner?

It depends on the agreed tasks and condition. Our current standard allowance for one bedroom and one bathroom is 2h. For a larger home with a strict two-hour limit, agree priority areas with an hourly provider rather than assuming every room will be finished.

Do two cleaners take half as long?

About half is a useful planning estimate when both cleaners can share the work throughout. It is not exact for every home. Two people working for two hours contribute four cleaner-hours in total.

Are fridge and cupboard interiors included in a deep clean?

Cleaning inside the oven is included. Cleaning inside the fridge and inside kitchen cabinets and drawers is optional and costs extra. Select any optional work when booking and empty the interiors you want cleaned. Existing recurring customers keep their agreed scope; check the details of your own booking.

Are these the times for weekly or fortnightly cleans?

No. The size table shows one-off estimates for a home kept on top of, without extras. Recurring visits can have a different allowance. Check the time for your selected service, frequency and condition in your booking.
