Carpet cleaning jobs
Simply Maid offers carpet steam cleaning work to cleaners who own a carpet extraction machine, as independent contractors in our seven cities. Jobs are measured in 40-minute units: each unit pays $30 at the $45 starting rate, with a $75 minimum per booking. You bring the machine, the tools and the products.
Upholstery and mattress jobs are optional and need an upholstery attachment.

The work
What the work involves
Steam cleaning carpets room by room, stairs and rugs, and if you have the attachment, sofas, chairs and mattresses.
Some carpet jobs are booked on their own. Others are added to a house clean, so the offer combines the clean and the carpet work into one job and one payment.
The job lists every room and item, so you know the size of the job before you accept it. On site you check care labels, test a hidden area first, control moisture, and leave the customer drying advice. If a fabric isn't suitable for wet cleaning, you stop and contact us rather than risk it.
How jobs are measured
How jobs are measured
One unit is 40 minutes of steam cleaning. Each item counts a set number of units, and the job's time is the total.
Each unit pays $30 at the starting rate, and every booking pays at least $75 (100 minutes), shared across all the steam cleaning on that booking. Your rate rises with your tier, like every job. The cleaning jobs page works through five common carpet jobs at the live rate.
| Item | Size | Units | Time allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedrooms / studies | Up to 12 m² per room | 1 | 40 min |
| Living / large rooms | Up to 24 m² per room | 2 | 1 h 20 min |
| Hallways | Up to 6 m² per hallway | ½ | 20 min |
| Flights of stairs | Up to 15 steps, including a small landing | 1½ | 1 h |
| 3-seater sofa | Fabric sofa; seat and back cushions included | 3 | 2 h |
| Armchair / recliner | One fabric chair; accessible upholstered surfaces | 1 | 40 min |
| Dining chair — seat only | One upholstered seat; no upholstered back | ¼ | 10 min |
| Office chair | One fabric seat and back; not leather or mesh-only | ½ | 20 min |
| Single / king-single mattress | One accessible sleeping surface and edges | 1 | 40 min |
| Queen mattress | One accessible sleeping surface and edges | 2 | 1 h 20 min |
| King mattress | One accessible sleeping surface and edges | 2½ | 1 h 40 min |
| Large rug | Over 4 m², up to 6 m²; suitable synthetic rugs only | 1 | 40 min |

Requirements
What you need
A working carpet extraction machine you own, with carpet and stair tools, and the know-how to use it safely on different fabrics.
- Your own extraction machine, suitable for full rooms, with carpet and stair tools, and a way to bring it to every job.
- Your own products, used as their instructions say.
- Fabric care. Follow care labels, check wet-cleaning suitability, test first and control moisture.
- For upholstery and mattresses, an upholstery extraction attachment and experience using it. Carpet-only work doesn't need one.
There's no formal qualification required. You also need what every cleaner needs: an ABN, photo ID, a reliable car and a smartphone.

Carpet work needs suitable extraction equipment and experience. Upholstery and mattress work additionally needs the compatible attachment. The job offer lists the booked areas and items.
