Top 7 Family-Oriented Things to Do in Sydney – There’s Something for Everyone!

Sydney has it all… and more! For the locals, it’s a blessing; for visitors, it’s one heck of a treat! But it can also be overwhelming with so many exciting things to do around here. Especially when you have kids who want to do it all, you’ve got to narrow it down to the best places and activities for the whole family. To help you with that, we’ve put together 7 of the most fun and family-oriented things to do in Sydney. Take a look!

1. Darling Harbour SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium

Home to over 700 different species, spread over six millions litres of water (combined), SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world. You and your kids will be in awe as you explore all 14 themed zones at the aquarium. From Shark Walk, Dugong Island and the Tropical Bay of Rays, to Mangrove Swamps, South Coast Shipwreck and a thrilling walk through the ocean tunnel. Expect to see a wide variety of shark species, penguins, rays, platypuses and much, much more!

2. Luna Park Sydney

For thrills, scares, joy rides and tons of fun, get the whole family down to Luna Park. This theme park is one of the best places to visit in Sydney for a day of family fun. There are dozens of rides and slides to go on, great food and beverages around, and breathtaking views from the top of the park to capture the awesome memories. Our favourite part of the park has to be the rides because there’s something for everyone! The thrilling Wild Mouse rollercoaster, Whirl Wheel, Hair Raiser, Wonky Walk, Devil’s Drop, Mirror Maze and Coney Island are just a few of the things to keep you and the kids entertained.

3. Taronga Zoo

Who doesn’t love animals? And who doesn’t enjoy the thrill and excitement of seeing these beautiful creatures in the flesh? Taronga Zoo boasts 75 hectares of bushy harbor which is home to Aussie favourites in the animal kingdom such as koalas and kangaroos, among many other precious little critters. You can find over 4000 animals at the zoo including elephants, giraffes, reptiles, exotics birds, seals, etc. While you’re there, you can get up close and personal with some of the friendly creatures with the assistance of zoo guides. They have feeding and encounters happening throughout the day.

4. Wet’n’Wild Sydney

Children, teens and adults; if you fall under any of these categories, Wet’n’Wild Sydney is a must-visit! The water slides range from fun and adventurous, to thrilling and are you nuts?!?! Gravity has never felt more eerily powerful than when you’re rocketing down slides like T5, Tantrum and 360Rush! Of course, there are more family-fun style slides with multiple-person rafts, including the Double BOWLSeye and the Curler. For little ones, Wet’n’Wild’s Nickelodeon Beach has miniature versions of their big, bone-chilling rides, as well as water sprays, a gigantic tipping bucket and plenty of fun slides. After all the fun and games, you and your (exhausted by now) kids can chill out in a gently swaying tube as the calm current of Boomerang Bay carries you along.

5. Madame Tussauds Sydney

The famous Madame Tussauds! Charge your camera batteries and phones because you’re going to be clicking away! Posing alongside some of your favourite celebrities with hugs and kisses all around! The kids will be stoked too; standing next to life size wax figures of some of the biggest music and movie stars in the world, including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling, and the King himself, Michael Jackson! You can also find wax figures of well-renowned personalities in sport and politics.

6. Chinamans Beach

You’ll find beaches in abundance in Sydney; but our personal favourite is Chinamans beach for its rather quiet surroundings. It’s also a sheltered beach so there aren’t any waves (though waves can be a lot of fun). This kind of calmness makes it the perfect beach to go snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking, all of which are family-fun activities to indulge in. There are some great sea plants, rock formations and fish species to discover at Chinamans Beach. With white sand and clear waters, what more could you ask for?

7. IMAX Theatre

Did you know that the largest IMAX Theatre in the world is in Darling Harbour, Sydney?! Now that you do, you have to treat yourself and the kids to this incredible 3D experience. The size of the largest screen is a whopping 117ft x 97ft and they have a wide variety of films and select blockbusters for all ages. Get the feel of floating around space or swimming alongside some huge and amazing sea creatures. You and your kids will surely come away with some incredible memories at Sydney’s IMAX Theatre.
